Tuition Centre
In our tuition centre, poor children from our neighborhood area come after school hours to study their subjects, play and do some art work. Monday to friday they come from 5 to 7.30 p.m. On Saturdays we have music, dance or art classes, sometimes we take them out to the play ground, etc. We have three part time teachers to teach the children their subjects, Tamil, Maths, Science and Social Science. Volunteers come from time to time to help the kids with their English lessons and give Art classes.
Our children have a very poor level in their subjects because they go to the public school. Due to the large number of children it’s difficult for the teachers to focus on each and every child, so the strong students excel and the weak ones get left behind. The parents are not educated, so they can’t help the children at home. We opened our centre to encourage the children to study and to give them some joyful times. We have 80 children aged between 5 to 16 years old. They come in two groups, 5 to 10 year olds as the group in the first hour, then in the second hour, the 11 to 16 year olds are the second group.
